Utah’s Kemp and Associates Helps Spread Suicide Awareness

Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and run by VP and COO Daniel J. Mannix, Kemp & Associates is a firm comprised of forensic genealogists with the goal of identifying and verifying an estate’s eligible heirs and beneficiaries so that property and assets are not claimed by the government. Daniel J. Mannix and his company have a commitment to charity and have supported many nonprofit organizations. When he was approached by the producer of a PBS documentary, “Hope Live: Preventing Teen Suicide,” Mr. Mannix decided to commit his company to support the cause through Hope4Utah, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing suicide by spreading public awareness and education.

In order to spread awareness of suicide, Hope4Utah has created Hope Squads, groups of students who are trained to watch out for those they feel are at-risk students. Members of the Hope Squad are there to provide friendship and support, identify warning signs, and finally, seek help from adults if they feel action needs to be taken. The direct support from Kemp & Associates allowed Hope4Utah to advocate for its cause in Washington, D.C., where the group presented its Hope Squad concept to lawmakers. Since then, the organization has spread its model of suicide prevention to a number of states throughout the country as well as Canada.
